"Marriage certificate" and "marriage registration" are closely related but not identical terms, and mixing them up can lead to confusion about what you actually need to apply for.
Marriage registration is the legal process of recording your marriage with a government Registrar. The marriage certificate is the official document you receive at the end of that process — the proof that your marriage is registered.
